Cristian Villavicencio Ruiz
Quito - Ecuador (1984)

Artista, docente e investigador. Su obra, que gira en torno a procesos subjetivos que fracturan el orden de la ciencia y posibilitan especular sobre nuestro imaginario simbólico. Sus proyectos han sido exhibidos en la 15 Bienal de Cuenca 2021, Arte Actual Flacso, Universidad de las Artes, y en varios museos del País Vasco tales como: el Centro Cultural Montehermoso Kulturunea, el Museo Guggenheim Bilbao y la Fundación BilbaoArte.  Ha participado en eventos como Ars Electronica Festival de Linz (Austria) dentro de la exposición 10 years Interface Cultures Exhibition. 
Actualmente lleva a cabo su proyecto de tesis doctoral en investigación en Arte Contemporáneo, en la Universidad del País Vasco (UPV/EHU) donde recibió una beca predoctoral del Departamento de Educación del Gobierno Vasco. En 2016, le concedieron la beca Basque Artist Program organizada por los Museos Guggenheim de Nueva York y Bilbao. 

Ha realizado residencias de investigación artística en Bulegoa z/b en Bilbao (2021), Fundación BilbaoArte (2016), York University, Sensorium Centre for Digital Media Research en Toronto (2015), Interface Cultures Department de la Universidad de Arte y Diseño en Linz, Austria (2014) y en el MA Studio de Pekín (2012).

Cristian Villavicencio (b. Quito - Ecuador, 1984)

Artist, teacher and researcher. His work, concerns with subjective processes that break the objective order of science and make it possible to speculate on our symbolic imaginary. His works have been exhibited in Ecuador in the 15th Cuenca Biennial 2021, FLACSO Center for Contemporary Art, University of the Arts, and in various museums in the Basque Country, Spain such as: the Montehermoso Kulturunea Cultural Center, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and the BilbaoArte Foundation. Villavicencio has participated in events such as the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz (Austria) within the 10 years Interface Cultures Exhibition (2014)

He is currently carrying out his doctoral thesis on research in Contemporary Art at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), where he received a predoctoral fellowship from the Department of Education of the Basque Government. In 2016, he was awarded the Basque Artist Program fellowship organized by the Guggenheim Museums in New York and Bilbao.
